The flight attendants union at Northwest Airlines is delaying its strike deadline for 10 days in light of the alleged terror plot uncovered Thursday targeting transatlantic flights. The new deadline is 10:01 p.m. Aug. 25, instead the same time Tuesday, Aug. 15. “We need to focus on safety and security. That really needs to be our number one priority,” said Ricky Thornton, communications chairman for the Association of Flight Attendants. Northwest flight attendants have threatened short walk-offs targeting certain flights or cities to protest wage and benefit cuts the airline imposed on workers late last month after flight attendants rejected a concessionary contract with the carrier.
